How do you get onto talker:
telnet using your favourite telnet client to neptune.freeasphost.co.uk on port 5000. (telnet://neptune.freeasphost.co.uk:5000), using your favourite telnet client. (Windows has one called telnet.exe, I prefer CRT from vandyke.com. You may also like Putty, or even Tiny Fugue).
Talker is to be used for technical conversations with some general chit chat. You'll be asked for a login - this is you're freeASPhost username and password, (on the same line, with a space in between). To talk just type. To get to know talker more, type in .help, and .help commands is dead useful.
If backspace doesn't work in your telnet client, try delete, or get a better telnet client.
If you can't see what you're typing, find the option in your telnet client for Local Echo, or get a better telnet client!
My plan for talker is to put some bots on it that'll tell you what the most recent problems on your site.
They'll also be other bots on talker, telling us about stuff.
Rules:
Common sense, and don't annoy us or this service will disappear.
Background:
The talker codebase we use is Colloquy. It's written
in Lua and C. It's modelled on the NILEX codebase, used by
Egham Hills 90210 and BBC Internet Services
Talker, both of which I can regularly be found on. We used to use Kim
codebase which was written in Perl and extended by me, but I liked Colloquy better.
